An evil wizard long ago put the city of Byre under a spell that causes girls out at night to sicken and disappear. Nighttime is the only time Kymera, a girl with wings, a spiky tail, and bolts in her neck, can enter the city, for if anyone saw her they wouldn't understand. She was created, in fact, to break the curse of the wizard--but when she is seen by a boy named Ren, Kymera's world is turned on its head. (Mackin).
